Joseph A. Calim passed away onFebruary 18th, 2021 at the age of 95. He is survived by his wife, Susan,his son, Bruce, and Greg, and hisgrandchildren, Jauneth, Madison,Greg, Mathew, Jacob, Cody andJake.
Joe was a member of several clubs at U.S.I. and the Martinez Gun Club. He was active in the Walnut Creek and Concord “Joe Calim Turkey Shoot” each year, organizing and running the shoots. Joe gunsmithed for many club members over the years, and he was a strong supporter and mentor to many youth and new shooters. He was a Champion trap shooter. Joe proudly served our country as a Machinist Mate on the USSHopewell (a Navy Destroyer) from1943 to 1947. The USS HopewellAssociation sent this message: “Asyou know, Joe was a loyal, LifetimeMember of the USS HopewellAssociation and was a greatsupporter of the Hopewell reunions. He wasalso one of the original 1943 “PlankOwner” (the first crew members toman a newly commissioned NavyShip.) Joe was a cornerstone of theHopewell Association and will beterribly missed by all who knewhim.” Joe always brought a smile to everyone who encountered him. He will be greatly missed.
